‘Gaza, Gaza, Food and Water! U.S. Israel Stop the Slaughter!’

More than 1,000 Rally at United Nations in New York City

NEW YORK CITY, July 25, 2025 — As part of an International Day of Action, more than 1,000 people rallied in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters here today to demand “Stop Starving Gaza Now!”

The rally, and subsequent march through midtown Manhattan, were organized by the local chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), with the support of many partner organizations. Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) played an important role as it was asked by PYM to mobilize its members and hold down a picket line prior to the start of the rally.

Protesters were urged to bring pots & pans, noisemakers — and their rage.

Signs and banners were welcome, especially those emphasizing ending the Israeli siege and the starvation of Gaza.

“Gaza, Gaza Food and Water! U.S. Israel Stop the Slaughter!” was one among many chants.

In an email to its New York City (NYC) membership calling for participation in today’s action, JVP said:

There are no words for the horror and devastation in Gaza right now. Israel’s campaign of mass starvation has reached a tipping point. Palestinians are being starved to death by the Israeli government and risking their lives to collect what meager rations Israel allows in. We demand that nations of the world uphold their obligation under international law to sanction Israel and let aid into Gaza immediately and unconditionally. We must cry out with everything we have to put a stop to these atrocities. Join JVP-NYC tomorrow to show up en masse for our partners at Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).

The photos that follow give a flavor of today’s action, one example of the multiple weekly Palestine solidarity protests that have been taking place here over the past 20 months.

Most of the larger demonstrations have been organized by the “Shut It Down” coalition. Hundreds of young people show up for its weekly organizing meetings.

Friends of Standing Together NYC, a local affiliate of Standing Together in Israel — an organization in that country that includes Jews, Palestinians, and others campaigning against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the current assault on Gaza — hold weekly rallies every Sunday afternoon at Union Square.

Another example of the ongoing protests is one on Monday, August 4, 2025, called by the anti-Zionist Jewish organization IfNotNow. The Instagram link to the call for that action can be found here.

And then, of course, there are the amazing “sneak attack” actions by JVP, in which the group’s members and supporters stage sit-ins or other protests at Grand Central Station, Brooklyn Bridge, Trump Tower, and elsewhere across NYC.

  1. This is a powerful reminder of the many ways citizens of most countries in the world can show their solidarity with the Palestinian people and ask: is “Never Again!” just for some, or does it apply to all human beings? Thank you for the powerful pictures.
