SAN FRANCISCO, California, January 30, 2026 — Large mobilizations took part today across the United States. Demonstrators denounced the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant crackdown and demanded justice for the two U.S. citizens — Renee Good and Alex Pretti — murdered in cold blood by federal agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earlier this month while documenting operations by Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) thugs.
Walkouts and marches and rallies by high school students across the country were a feature of the protests.
Below are a few initial reports posted on YouTube on a smattering of the student walkouts and marches in California and the country’s south and southwest.
This mass youth initiative is markedly different from previous mobilizations.
My daughter was among the thousands of high school students from across the San Francisco Bay Area who walked out and converged in Dolores Park.
Few to none had ever protested before, and none had organized actions entirely on their own initiative.
She reported the mood was electric and many students were enthusiastic about how to organize further actions. All the pent-up rage at a year of unceasing attacks by the Trump administration and its ultra-rightist allies is now finding a way forward to effectively fight.
As a bonus, the high school students, by virtue of their age, are mostly impervious to attempts to derail their fight into electoralism.
Hopefully this is just a beginning and marks a significant shift towards massive, legal, and non-violent protests as opposed to counterproductive melees by small groups.
These protests are inviting to people of all ages.
Interestingly, there were also some anti-immigrant counter rallies by right-wing high school students in support of ICE. This reflects the depth of the political polarization this struggle has engendered.
In addition to “ICE OUT!”, it will be important to expand and keep focused on concrete demands, as we see the government and capitalist parties maneuvering to take the pressure off with empty promises and reshuffling of their thugs, or abstract meaningless demands. We’ve seen it before.
ICE OUT!
Stop the deportations!
Legalization for all undocumented immigrants and refugees!
Jail ICE killers!
