Outrageous Federal Raid on Ilhan Omar: Qualitative Step Toward One-Man Rule

The vindictive raid by the Department of Homeland Security on the home of Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar on October 12, 2026, was a dangerous escalation of Trump’s drive toward one-man rule. It was an outrageous attack on basic democratic rights in the United States. A judge had signed a warrant for the search, but that did not make it legal or just. As the Wall Street Journal reported, “The Trump administration’s investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (Democrat, Minnesota) is aimed at building a case to strip her of her US citizenship and ultimately deport her.” Protests are needed to demand: ‘End Investigation of Congresswoman Now!’

We Stand with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

On January 27, 2026, a man attacked U.S. congresswoman Ihan Omar while she was addressing a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, a city she represents along with a number of its suburbs. The attacker, using a syringe, sprayed Omar with a pungent liquid before he was tackled and taken away by security. There is little doubt that behind this odious assault was the unceasing bigotry and vilification of Omar and the entire Somali American community in Minnesota by U.S. president Donald Trump and much of the Republican Party establishment.
