Now Is the Time! Join with Impacted Families!

The following is the text of the call for a national march and rally in Washington, D.C. The action will take place on Sat., Aug. 28, 2021, from 11am to 7pm at the Lincoln Memorial in the U.S. capital. Its demands include reopening all cases of police misconduct where justice has been denied and prosecution and jailing of guilty cops. Mass Action Against Police Brutality and other organizations issued the call, which has been endorsed as of May 2 by 245 members of families that have lost loved ones to police violence across the United States.

Scores of the impacted families of men and women slain by police across the country, and their supporters — are building a national rally and march in Washington D.C. on August 28, 2021. This event coincides with the 58th anniversary of the original march on Washington. The overlapping date is meaningful because one of the most powerful expressions of the modern-day movement for civil rights is the anti-police brutality struggle.

Millions of people mobilizing in the streets helped bring about the conviction of ex-cop Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, but most impacted families — despite damning evidence against cop aggressors — remain in legal limbo, face not guilty verdicts, hung juries or cases that have never made it to trial.

Momentum is gathering as growing numbers of people recognize the nationwide reality of the cover-up operations, outright lying and criminalization of the victims carried out by police departments, courts and media outlets in city after city. We are building a giant contingent of families and their supporters from across the country to converge at the nation’s capital to specifically demand: “Reopen the cases!” and “prosecute killer cops.” The purpose of the event is to keep the pressure on everyone responsible for the lack of prosecutions, investigations and jailings and to inspire and encourage new participation in local efforts everywhere to help families achieve their demands.
